Disabling Two-Factor Authentication
How to turn off 2FA on your account — and when you might need to.
When Would You Disable 2FA?
Common reasons to temporarily disable 2FA:
- You are getting a new phone and need to reconfigure your authenticator app
- You are changing authenticator apps
- You lost access to your authenticator and need to use a backup code to regain access and set up fresh
Note: We recommend re-enabling 2FA as soon as possible after any device change.
How to Disable 2FA
After getting your new phone set up, immediately re-enable 2FA by following the setup guide above.
Log in to your account
Log in as normal with your email, password, and current 2FA code.
Go to Settings
Click Settings in the left sidebar.
Find the 2FA section
Scroll to Security → Two-Factor Authentication.
Click Disable 2FA
Click the Disable 2FA button.
Confirm with your current code
Enter the current 6-digit code from your authenticator app to confirm this is an intentional action.
Click Confirm Disable
2FA is now disabled. Your next login will only require email and password.
Lost Access to Your Authenticator App?
If you can no longer access your authenticator app:
1. On the 2FA login screen, click Use a backup code
2. Enter one of the one-time backup codes you saved when you enabled 2FA
3. You will be logged in — immediately go to Settings and disable 2FA, then re-enable it with your new device
If you also do not have your backup codes, contact SMLLR support at [email protected]. We will require identity verification before helping you regain access.
Each backup code can only be used once. After using one, it is no longer valid. This is by design for security.
