Setting Up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Add an extra layer of security to your account using an authenticator app.

What is Two-Factor Authentication?

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) adds a second verification step to your login process. Even if someone knows your password, they cannot log in without also having access to your authenticator app.

After enabling 2FA:
1. You enter your email and password as usual
2. SMLLR then asks for a 6-digit code from your authenticator app
3. The code is valid for only 30 seconds and changes constantly
4. Only someone with both your password AND your phone can log in

We strongly recommend enabling 2FA on your SMLLR account, especially if you manage QR codes for clients or have a team.

Compatible Authenticator Apps

SMLLR's 2FA is based on the TOTP (Time-based One-Time Password) standard, which is supported by all major authenticator apps:

  • Google Authenticator — free, iOS and Android

  • Authy — free, iOS and Android, with cloud backup

  • Microsoft Authenticator — free, iOS and Android

  • 1Password — paid password manager with built-in 2FA

  • Bitwarden — free/paid, with TOTP support in the premium tier

How to Enable 2FA

Save your backup codes immediately. If you lose your phone and do not have backup codes, you will be locked out of your account. SMLLR support cannot bypass 2FA without identity verification.

1

Go to Settings

Click Settings in the left sidebar.

2

Find the Two-Factor Authentication section

Scroll to the Security section and find Two-Factor Authentication (2FA).

3

Click Enable 2FA

Click the Enable 2FA button.

4

Scan the QR code

Open your authenticator app on your phone:
- Google Authenticator: tap the + button → Scan a QR code
- Authy: tap the + button → Scan

Point your phone's camera at the QR code displayed on the SMLLR screen.

5

Enter the 6-digit code

After scanning, your authenticator app will display a 6-digit code. Type that code into the field on the SMLLR screen.

6

Save your backup codes

SMLLR will display a set of one-time backup codes. Save these in a safe place (print them, store in a password manager, or save in a secure note). You can use a backup code to log in if you lose access to your authenticator app.

7

Click Confirm and Enable

Click the confirmation button. 2FA is now active on your account.
