Meta Sync: Turn Scanners Into an Ad Audience — Then Find More Like Them.
Sync consented Lead Hub contacts into a Meta Custom Audience inside your own ad account — retarget the people who already scanned, then build a Lookalike Audience in Meta Ads Manager to find more people just like them.
From QR Scan to Ad Audience, Automatically
Meta Sync (Pro plan and above) takes the leads in your Lead Hub who've specifically consented to ad targeting and keeps a Meta Custom Audience — inside your own Meta Ads account, not SMLLR's — in sync with them. Connect your ad account once; every sync after that finds who's newly eligible and who's dropped off, and pushes only that difference. No spreadsheet exports, no manual CSV upload to Meta, no stale audience going months without a refresh.
- Reads the same ad-targeting consent purpose already tracked in Lead Hub — nothing new to set up on the capture side
- Each sync uploads only what changed since the last one: newly consented leads get added, opted-out or suppressed contacts get removed
- One Custom Audience per connected ad account, kept current with a single "Sync Now" action whenever you want
- Phone numbers and emails are SHA-256 hashed before they ever leave SMLLR's servers — Meta receives hashes, never raw contact details
- A full Sync History log shows exactly how many contacts were added or removed on every run
Retarget the People Who Already Scanned
A Custom Audience built from real QR scanners is a fundamentally warmer audience than a cold interest-based one — these are people who physically engaged with your poster, menu, table tent, or packaging and chose to opt in. Running Facebook and Instagram ads against that audience means every rupee of ad spend goes toward people who've already shown intent, rather than starting a relationship from zero.
The Real Growth Lever: Lookalike Audiences
Retargeting alone caps out at the size of your existing scanner base. The bigger opportunity happens once your Custom Audience exists inside Meta Ads Manager: build a Lookalike Audience directly there, and Meta finds new people across Facebook and Instagram who statistically resemble the real customers who scanned your codes — not just people who match a generic interest category. This is what turns Meta Sync from a remarketing tool into an acquisition channel: your offline foot traffic becomes the seed data for finding your next customers, not just re-showing ads to the ones you already have. Lookalike creation itself happens natively in Meta Ads Manager, using your synced audience as the seed — SMLLR's job is keeping that seed audience clean, consented, and current.
Consent-Gated and Privacy-First by Design
Ad targeting is tracked as its own distinct consent purpose in Lead Hub, separate from email or WhatsApp consent — a lead who's opted into email marketing is not automatically eligible for Meta Sync, and vice versa. Suppressed contacts are excluded automatically from every sync. And if a lead is ever permanently erased from Lead Hub, that erasure removes them from your Meta Custom Audience too — not just from SMLLR's own database — so an erasure request is honoured everywhere the data reached, not only at the source.
Connecting Your Ad Account Takes Minutes, Not a Meta App Review
Setup is a one-time Partner connection, not an OAuth login flow: add SMLLR's Business ID as a partner in your own Meta Business Settings, grant it access to your ad account, then paste your Ad Account ID into SMLLR and click Verify. Because this uses Meta's standard Business partner-access model rather than a custom-built login integration, there's no lengthy Meta app-review process standing between connecting your account and running your first sync.
Simple, Whole-Credit Pricing
Meta Sync draws from the same credit wallet as Email Marketing — 1 credit covers 20 contacts touched in a single sync (added and removed both count). A sync that only touches 5 contacts still costs just 1 credit; a sync touching 45 contacts costs 3. Nothing is charged for a sync where nothing actually changed.
Frequently Asked Questions
What plan do I need for Meta Sync?
Meta Sync requires a Pro plan or above.
Is Meta Sync the same thing as WhatsApp marketing?
No. Meta Sync is specifically about Facebook and Instagram ad retargeting via Meta Custom Audiences. It shares the "Meta" branding with WhatsApp because both are Meta platforms, but they are separate features with separate consent purposes.
What is the difference between retargeting and a lookalike audience?
Retargeting shows ads to the exact people already in your synced audience — people who scanned your codes. A lookalike audience is built by Meta from that same audience as a seed, and finds new people who statistically resemble your real customers, extending your reach beyond people you've already captured.
Do I need to already have a Meta Ads account?
Yes. Meta Sync connects to an ad account you already control — SMLLR doesn't create one for you. If you don't have one yet, you'll need to set one up in Meta Business Manager first.
Does connecting require logging into Meta from SMLLR?
No. You add SMLLR's Business ID as a partner inside your own Meta Business Settings and grant it ad-account access — there's no OAuth login screen or password shared with SMLLR at any point.
What data does Meta actually receive?
SHA-256 hashes of phone numbers and email addresses, generated on SMLLR's servers before anything is sent — never raw contact details. Meta matches hashes against its own user base to build the audience.
Who is eligible to be synced?
Only Lead Hub contacts who've granted the specific ad-targeting consent purpose, and who aren't on your account's ad-targeting suppression list. Consent for email or WhatsApp marketing doesn't carry over to Meta Sync.
What happens when someone opts out after already being synced?
The next sync detects they're no longer eligible and removes them from your Meta Custom Audience — opted-out contacts don't just stop being added, they get actively pulled out.
How much does a sync cost?
1 credit per 20 contacts touched (added or removed) in that sync, from the same credit wallet Email Marketing uses. A sync where nothing changed costs nothing.
Can I build the actual Lookalike Audience inside SMLLR?
No — Lookalike Audience creation happens natively in Meta Ads Manager, using the Custom Audience SMLLR keeps synced as the seed. SMLLR's role is keeping that seed audience accurate and current; building and running the lookalike campaign itself happens in Meta's own tools.
