Tracking Pixels

Tracking Pixels Troubleshooting

Solutions for pixels not firing, IDs not saving, and understanding which value actually applied to a scan.

A Pixel Isn't Firing on Scan

  • Check the ID format — Google Ads IDs must look like AW-XXXXXXXXX and GA4 IDs like G-XXXXXXXXXX. SMLLR validates this format when you save; a rejected save means the format doesn't match.

  • Confirm the QR code isn't overriding it blank — a per-QR override that was set and then cleared to blank still counts as "no override" and falls back to the account default, so double-check the account default itself is saved under Settings → Tracking Pixels.

  • Confirm your plan — tracking pixels require Premium or above. If your plan was recently upgraded, refresh the Settings page so your account reflects the change.

  • Special-protocol QR codes don't carry pixels — QR codes whose destination is tel:, sms:, or mailto: redirect directly without showing an intermediate page, so there is nowhere to inject a tracking script. Pixels only fire for http(s) destinations.

Which Value Actually Applied to a Scan?

For each of the four platforms, SMLLR resolves the effective ID independently: the QR code's own override if set, otherwise the account default. This is decided per platform, not all-or-nothing — for example, a QR code can override only its Meta Pixel ID while still inheriting the account's Google Ads, GA4, and LinkedIn defaults.

To see what a specific QR code will actually use, open it in Edit mode and check the Tracking Pixels section: any field showing your typed value is an override; any field showing the greyed-out "Inheriting org default" placeholder is using the account default.

I Changed My Account Default But an Old QR Code Still Uses the Old Value

This is expected if that QR code has its own override set for that platform — overrides always take priority over the account default, by design, so that a QR code you deliberately configured differently doesn't silently change when you update your account-wide defaults.

If the QR code should be inheriting the account default instead, open it in Edit mode, clear that field's override, and save.

Still Having Issues?

If a pixel still isn't firing after checking the above, email support@smllr.app with the QR code's tinyId/link, which platform isn't firing, and a screenshot of the relevant browser extension's output (Meta Pixel Helper / Google Tag Assistant / LinkedIn Insight Tag Helper). Our team will respond within 24 hours (Monday–Saturday).
