A/B Testing

Creating an A/B Test

Step-by-step guide to setting up an A/B test for a QR code.

How to Create an A/B Test

Start with an equal split (50/50 for 2 variants) unless you have a specific reason to weight one variant more heavily. Equal splits give you the most statistically balanced results.

1

Go to A/B Tests

Click A/B Tests in the left sidebar of your dashboard.

2

Click + Create A/B Test

Click the + Create A/B Test button in the top-right.

3

Name your test

Give the test a descriptive name so you can identify it later (e.g. 'Table Card — Instagram vs Google Reviews').

4

Select or create the QR code

Choose an existing QR code from your account to run the test on, or create a new one.

5

Add variants

You start with two variants:
- Variant A — enter the destination URL for the first version
- Variant B — enter the destination URL for the second version

Click + Add Variant to add a third or fourth variant if needed (maximum 4).

6

Set traffic split

For each variant, set the traffic weight. Weights must add up to 100. For a 50/50 split: set A = 50 and B = 50. For a 70/30 split: set A = 70 and B = 30.

7

Start the test

Click Start Test. The test begins immediately — the next scan will be routed to one of the variants.

Things to Know Before Starting

  • One active test per QR code — a QR code can only have one active A/B test at a time

  • Minimum test duration — for statistically meaningful results, run the test for at least 7 days and aim for at least 100 scans per variant

  • Redirect rules are paused — while an A/B test is active on a QR code, that QR code's redirect rules (geo, device, schedule) are bypassed. The test controls all routing

  • Analytics are per-variant — scans are tracked separately for each variant so you can compare their performance
