Setting QR Code Expiry

How to make a QR code automatically stop working after a specific date or after a certain number of scans.

What is QR Code Expiry?

QR code expiry allows you to automatically deactivate a QR code after a set condition is met — either a date/time or a number of scans. When an expired QR code is scanned, the visitor sees an expiry page rather than being redirected.

Expiry is useful for:
- Time-limited offers — 'Scan before 31st December for 20% off'
- Event QR codes — automatically deactivate after the event ends
- Limited-availability promotions — 'First 100 customers only'
- Preview access — give early access to a link for a limited period

Setting a Date-Based Expiry

Set the expiry time a few hours after your actual event or offer end time to account for time zone differences and last-minute scans.

1

Open the QR editor

Go to QR Codes, find your QR code, and click Edit.

2

Go to Settings tab

Click the Settings tab inside the QR editor.

3

Enable expiry

Toggle on the Expiry option.

4

Set expiry type to Date

Select Date & Time as the expiry type.

5

Choose the date and time

Use the date-time picker to select the exact date and time (in IST) when this QR code should stop working.

6

Save

Click Save Changes. The QR code will automatically deactivate at the specified time.

Setting a Scan-Count Expiry

Scan count uses total scans, not unique scans. If the same person scans the code multiple times, each scan counts toward the limit.

1

Open the QR editor

Go to QR Codes, find your QR code, and click Edit.

2

Go to Settings tab

Click the Settings tab.

3

Enable expiry

Toggle on the Expiry option.

4

Set expiry type to Scan Count

Select Scan Count as the expiry type.

5

Enter the scan limit

Enter the maximum number of scans allowed (e.g. 500 for a 'first 500 customers' promotion).

6

Save

Click Save Changes.

Redirect After Scan Limit (Basic+ Plan)

The Scan-Limit Redirect rule is different from expiry. Instead of showing an expired page, it redirects scans above the limit to a different URL — for example, a 'sold out' page or a waitlist signup form. This is available on the Basic plan and above.

See the Redirect Rules section of this Help Centre for a full guide.
