GPS-Exact Location Tracking (Premium)
How Premium's precise GPS capture differs from standard IP-based geolocation analytics, what it asks scanners for, and how to read the data.
What It Does
On the Premium plan, SMLLR captures the scanner's precise device GPS coordinates (latitude, longitude, and accuracy radius) instead of relying only on IP-based city/country estimation. This is a materially different, more precise data source than the standard Geolocation Analytics described above, and it requires the scanner's explicit permission at the moment of scanning.
How It Works on a Scan
When a Premium account's QR code is scanned, the redirect page briefly asks the scanner's browser for location permission before continuing on to your destination.
If a QR code has a Lead Capture Gate or is a Play & Win code, that flow takes priority and is shown instead of the GPS prompt.

The scanner's phone opens the QR redirect page.

The device's native "Allow [site] to use your location?" prompt appears.
Coordinates sent (if allowed)
If the scanner allows it, precise latitude, longitude, and accuracy are recorded against that scan.
Redirect continues either way
Whether the scanner allows or denies the permission — or simply doesn't respond — the redirect to your destination proceeds automatically within a few seconds. Scanners are never blocked from reaching your content.
Why This Is More Precise Than IP-Based Analytics
IP-based geolocation (available from Starter and up) estimates a city from network data and can be thrown off by VPNs, mobile carrier routing, or ISP registration quirks. GPS-Exact Location Tracking instead uses the scanner's own device hardware, giving you an actual point on the map with an accuracy radius — useful for pinpointing exactly which store entrance, billboard, or table a scan came from, not just which city.
Common Questions
Does GPS-Exact Location Tracking block or slow down the scanner? No. The redirect proceeds automatically within a few seconds whether or not the scanner grants location permission — they are never stuck waiting or blocked from reaching your content.
What if the scanner denies the location permission? The scan is still recorded with whatever IP-based location data is normally available; precise coordinates are simply not attached to that scan.
Does this apply to every QR code on a Premium account? Yes, to every scan-and-redirect QR code on the account, except QR codes with a Lead Capture Gate or Play & Win configured, which show their own flow instead.
