QR Code CTA Types

App Download

Create a QR code that detects the scanner's device and sends iOS users to the App Store and Android users to the Play Store.

What is It?

The App Download CTA creates a single QR code that intelligently detects whether the scanner is using an iPhone or an Android device, and redirects them to the correct app store automatically:
- iPhone users → Apple App Store
- Android users → Google Play Store

This eliminates the need to manage separate QR codes for each platform.

When to Use It

  • App launch campaigns

  • In-store or physical marketing for apps

  • Product packaging directing users to a companion app

  • Events where an app is required for check-in or content

How to Set It Up

1

Select 'App Download'

Choose App Download from the CTA type list.

2

Enter the App Store URL

Paste the full iOS App Store link for your app (e.g. https://apps.apple.com/app/yourapp/id123456789).

3

Enter the Play Store URL

Paste the full Google Play Store link for your app (e.g. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yourapp).

4

Set a fallback URL (optional)

If the device cannot be identified as iOS or Android (e.g. desktop browser), enter a fallback URL — typically your app's marketing website.

5

Save and test

Test on both an iPhone and an Android phone to verify each is routed to the correct store.

How Device Detection Works

SMLLR reads the User-Agent string sent by the scanner's browser to identify the device OS. This detection is highly accurate for modern devices. Older or non-standard browsers may occasionally fall through to the fallback URL.
